Director's Welcome
Dear Families,
I am extremely excited to have been appointed the new Director of Performing and Fine Arts at The Village School! During one of our first faculty meetings, welcoming new staff and faculty, one colleague said, “you have sincerely hit the jackpot.” He was absolutely correct. Originally from the Boston area where I was both Art and Music Director for K-12 students in a very large faith-based school. What I have missed most since living and teaching in Naples, Florida is an academically challenging curriculum coupled with a strong, faith-based teaching community. I have found that with The Village School and so will your children.
What I have also found here are highly educated and committed Administrators and Teaching Colleagues who truly care about high-quality teaching and learning in an extremely safe environment. I am extremely privileged to direct the wonderful private lesson teachers who offer voice, piano, guitar, violin, viola, cello, and double bass lessons both during the school day and after school. I am a member of the Naples Harp Ensemble, Richard Fleisher, Principal Harpist of the Naples Philharmonic and know full well the magnificent doors that the wonderful world of the arts open for everyone.
As part of our comprehensive arts program that is under my direction as the Director of Performing and Fine Arts, students engage in a wide range of fine arts experiences, including field trips to local cultural institutions like Artis Naples and visits from guest lecturers right here at The Village School. Our art curriculum includes diverse projects that explore various themes and techniques, such as pencil fine art elements like line composition, shading, sketching, geometric shapes, landscapes, collage, abstract art, still life, and drawing. Students have the opportunity to create in both indoor and outdoor settings, allowing for a rich, hands-on learning experience that fosters creativity and artistic expression.
In closing, I want to express how excited I am for the opportunities children experience in the arts at The Village School. Whether through visual arts, music, or performing arts, we are committed to fostering creativity, discipline, and a love for the arts in every student. With the support of our talented faculty and the enriching experiences we provide, students have the chance to explore their passions, develop their skills, and unlock their potential in a nurturing and faith-based environment. I look forward to the possibility of welcoming your family into our vibrant arts community and seeing your children's artistic journeys unfold at The Village School.
Sincerely,
Dr. Lois Carme, J.D.
